Microblading Aftercare: Day-by-Day Healing Guide
What to expect after your microblading appointment — a day-by-day breakdown of the healing process and exactly how to care for your new brows.
Microblading Aftercare: Your Day-by-Day Guide
Proper aftercare is what separates beautiful, long-lasting microblading results from patchy, faded ones. Here's exactly what to do — and what to avoid — in the weeks following your appointment at our Doral studio.
The Healing Timeline
Days 1–3: Fresh and Dark
Your brows will look bold and dark immediately after the appointment — up to 40% darker than the final result. This is completely normal. You may notice slight redness or tenderness in the area.
Care:
- Do not wet the brow area at all (when washing your face, work around the brows)
- Do not apply any products to the brow area
- No touching, rubbing, or picking
- Sleep on your back to avoid contact with the pillow
Days 4–7: Light Flaking and Scabbing
Small flakes or light scabs may form. This is the outer layer of skin beginning to heal. The brows may look slightly raised or feel tight.
The critical rule: do not pick or pull the flakes. Every time you remove a scab prematurely, you risk pulling pigment out with it.
Care:
- Continue keeping the area dry
- If recommended by your artist, apply a thin layer of the provided aftercare ointment with a clean cotton swab
- Absolutely no makeup on or near the brows
Days 8–14: The "Ghost Phase"
Around the second week, the brows may look dramatically faded — lighter, softer, sometimes almost invisible. Many clients panic at this stage. Don't worry — this is normal.
The outer layer of skin is fully shed, and what you're seeing is the pigment sitting beneath a layer of fresh skin. The full colour will continue to surface over the following weeks.
Days 14–28: Colour Returns
The true colour gradually reappears as the skin continues to heal. You'll see the strokes settling and the definition returning. Your brows will start to look closer to the final result.
Week 6–8: Touch-Up Appointment
This is when your follow-up appointment happens. After the full healing process, some areas may need adjustments — a stroke filled in, the colour refreshed, or minor shape refinements. This touch-up is included in your service and is essential for the best result.
Microblading Aftercare: The Rules
Do:
- Keep brows completely dry for at least 10 days
- Sleep on your back
- Apply aftercare ointment only if instructed by your artist
- Let any flaking occur naturally — don't rush it
- Attend your 6–8 week touch-up
Don't:
- Get the brow area wet (no swimming, saunas, excessive sweating)
- Apply makeup, toner, serum, or retinol near the brow area during healing
- Expose to direct sun (UV breaks down pigment during healing)
- Use exfoliants near the brows
- Pick, scratch, or rub
- Have facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments near the area
Long-Term Care
Once fully healed, a few habits will extend the life of your microblading:
- Apply SPF daily. UV is the number-one reason microblading fades prematurely.
- Avoid retinol and exfoliants directly over the brows. These accelerate cell turnover and fade pigment.
- Book your annual colour refresh. Most clients return 12–18 months after their initial appointment for a refresh that restores the vibrancy of the pigment.
